Digital senses (week 9)

What we did:

In the workshop in Helix, we learnt how to use Arduino kits to make digital sensors. This was extremely interesting as it combined our knowledge of code with a physical piece of hardware (the Arduino kit) and allowed us to see how they connected and, furthermore, how we ourselves could connect with what we had coded the kit to do. In this case, we coded it to sense temperature and react to body temperature but we also played around with the code to see how making slight changes to the code could impact how the Arduino reacted and lit up.

My reflection:

Applying this insight to a larger scale, it is fascinating to know all physical digital objects, phones, computers etc are all, fundamentally, working in this way.

At this point, I have understood the basics of software, how every website in the world is just a more elaborate version of the HTML I have learnt. Now I was understanding the basics of hardware, how this code was telling the LEDs in my phone, computer, any screen etc, what to do and when to do it.
